SUNRISE DUTCH EDUCATION FUND
Our foundation consists of a highly committed group of volunteers. We advocate for the children in Nepal and do so without compensation. In Nepal, we have three board members who also dedicate themselves with great enthusiasm. They provide guidance, monitor the children, and report on progress to the board in the Netherlands.
Every year, at least one of the board members travels to Nepal at their own expense. Last year, Desiree and Heleen were in Nepal to visit the schools and discuss new applications with the head of the school. The children's homes are also visited.

Nepal is a country that continues to fascinate me. Besides the fascination with the beautiful Himalayas, the Nepalese people have stolen my heart. They are exceptionally friendly people who are willing to share even the least they possess with you. Through my profession as a midwife, I also came into contact with obstetrics in Nepal. 30% of women in the mountain regions still die during childbirth here. As a result, a large proportion of children, even though they have a father, are placed in an orphanage. I find it very important that parent and child can stay together. The parent-child bond remains strong, and that benefits the care they provide for one another. Education is essential for the future of the children; the children are the future of Nepal. I want to stand up for that, together with you!

It was an impressive journey in which I worked together. I searched with Desiree, Laxmi and Sangeeta the areas and schools where the children from the SDEF program live and go to school Six months after the devastating earthquake of April 2015, I was quite shocked by the poverty and conditions in which many people live. it was also fantastic to see how we can make a difference for a number of children and their families, which is why I would like to continue to use my knowledge and skills to make a small but structural contribution through the SDEF to a better future for the children in Nepal. Through my great passions of travel and photography, I have seen much of the world, during which I was also confronted with poverty and poor education. Yet it is so important that children receive a good education, as that is often the start of a better life. Furthermore, it is so important that children continue to live with their families. What makes SDEF so unique is that children whose parents cannot afford education are still given the opportunity to go to school and continue living at home. We give them a future! I have been to Nepal several times myself, and good education is of great importance. That is why I hope you will support us.
In my daily life, I work as an organizational consultant, trainer, and photographer.

My number one passion is definitely travelling, that is why I made it part of my day to day live with working for KLM. With all my years spending abroad I discovered that educations is unfortunately not a given for every child in the world and especially not in Nepal. This is why I try to contribute via SDEF to create easier accessibility of education for the Children in Nepal. Although I know it is still only a small step compared to the size of the problem. This small scale of SDEF attracted me especially because it creates a very efficient organization with direct links and roots within Nepal.
